We just don't listen

So what have we learned in two millennia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

---- Cicero - 55 BC

...Evidently nothing, then.

Obviously not... although the Vatican is hardly bankrupt.

Makes a mockery of the vows of poverty and selfless devotion to others.

Almost intimidating in its beauty.

Yes, there is something to be said for these huge places of worship - they do have an almost tangible atmosphere. Imagine how many poor people had to pay for it though.... I have a bit of a mistrust of organized religion
